well, when I joined deviantART I knew nothing about photography, so I started reading free e-books and e-articles...and still learning..
Internet provides a lot of information about photography...photography talk and photography school etc are good websites for learning photography...and most of all I refer a book "Bryan Peterson - Understanding Exposure", though this book is mainly for SLR cameras but it'll help you to know you about good composition & perspective, more over it'll provide you a good knowledge about metering, lights and many other things...and give some time to some photo-editing tools like photoshop, gimp etc along with photography....
remember, "Experiments and Experiences provide perfection"....and art is about how to express your feelings and emotions through your art...so use your imagination power and creativity....that's all you need....
